Tacoma 1.05 Flash Independently Tested. Amazing Results - upcoming updates

OVTune 1.05 Tacoma ECU and TCU Flash has been independently dyno tested and the results are stunning!
1. Testing Was performed on a stock Tacoma 6AT with Larger wheels and Tires.
Results below show our 1.05 Tune calibration vs stock calibration (blue line). Our Calibration extends power to Toyotas OEM Rev limiter for this engine (6800 RPM) available in the Toyota Camry and Lexus IS350 and RC350.
Our 1.05 Calibration has been given further enhancements in an upcoming update this summer, which are explained below.
Increases seen over stock, torque limited tune can be seen everywhere in the RPM range. Notably, around 4100 RPM there is a very big gain in torque, more than 50 ft lbs! This is achieved by comprehensively modifying the torque limiting tables and throttle control, WITHOUT affecting ignition, or fuel or anything else. Simply "unlocking" the available power in the low end range makes massive improvements to power, torque, and drive-ability overall.
Upcoming Summer calibration Update - Maximizing Torque without affecting ANY emission controlling section of the calibration. (low load, low rpm, non power demand range of the calibration)
- Update to ignition control for better efficiency
- Update to Toyotas high and Low octane control.
- Update to Acoustic Control - More torque!
Our Goal: Ensure we can provide the absolute BEST calibration for these trucks possible, even under strict octane requirements. More and more people want performance without paying at the pump. So we sought out to ensure that you are losing nothing by running 87 octane.

First we began with running 04B03 stock, vs 04B04 Stock.
We set the truck up on the dyno, and ran 04B03.
Immediately after we updated the ECU to Toyotas TSB ECU version 04B04 through techstream.
- The truck immediately picked up a noticeable amount of low end torque and a positive gain or +6 horsepower over 04B03 stock. (note, no changes except updating to 04B04)
Here is the difference recorded on the dyno of Toyotas stock tune and Toyotas STOCK TSB Tune Update.

- Update to Acoustic Control - More torque!

Next we sought out to tune the Acoustic Valve control. We all know that sudden "surge" in power about half way through the RPM band. Well this is the Acoustic Valve control activation.
The ACIS has a 2 phase point, and has more than 1 RPM activation point depending on "low and High" opening / activation.

First we began by testing some slight RPM adjustments, and were able to eliminate the torque hole where the stock activation takes place.

Through further adjustments we were able to create a torque spike, but this is from a surge in manifold turbulence and you can see the resulting slope and recover afterwards. Not really ideal for tuning or driving.

Finally after multiple tests we found the most IDEAL location (which is NOT stock) to create more torque in the lower RPM while reducing the torque slope after activation.
You can see below, and we further smoothed this through changes to intake valve timing (which does NOT reduce any torque)

Finally, our resulting changes.
-04B04 Performance 87 octane with the new ACIS tuned point

This is a tuned gain with 87 octane that will provide real world results where the truck is driven and needed the most.
Include gear locking, and you've got more than 50 ft lbs available at 3100 RPM, tested. This is an absolute requirement for anyone who would like to tow WITHOUT having the engine screaming at 5000 RPM.
(for people who are already on 04B04, testing results ~20-22 ft lbs)

Final result:

Note-

This is our 87 octane performance tune vs 87 octane stock tune.
We get MANY requests about people wanting as much power and response while remaining on 87 octane, so we thought it would be best to give this octane the attention people are requesting.
As a result we are seeing VERY good gains for 87 octane.
Through tuning the intake manifold, modifying valve timing to create more torque where more flow is now available via intake manifold runner tuning, we have created even more torque in the low end than EVER before, on 87 octane.

Results below are how the truck came in (04B03 pre -TSB) To UPDATED 04B04 Tuned 87 octane. This is a massive difference.
Now the engine is making more than 250 Horsepower, measured at the wheel, from 5200 RPM to 7000 RPM.

Through extensive testing, and months of development we have found, tested, and ensured we can continue to provide the absolute best, unmatched, calibration for these trucks possible.
This includes development and testing for things that we had listed to do outside of our 1.05 release,
- Acoustic Valve Tuning
- Additional Intake and Exhaust Valve tuning to match new ACIS tuned points
- Focusing on improving our 87 octane tune
- Lower RPM torque gains are made NOT through ANY ignition or fueling changes. ONLY through modifications to throttle, torque, and shift limitations.

- Update to ignition control for better efficiency
Without making any modifications to any section of the tune which 99.99% of driving is performed (low load. Low rpm. Moderate load. Moderate RPM) we have begun working on an update to make our ignition control strategy even safer.
- We all know these engines are EXTREMELY prone to detonation, and are extremely sensitive to octane changes. However we do not want to see people having to switch back and forth all the time, worrying about what they are getting out of the pump.
So we are working on an intelligent knock based control to modify Toyotas already existent Primary and Safe ignition tables. By modifying only the areas where detonation is most likely to occur ( Full throttle, power demand) and no where else, we have created a safe way to allow the tune to "adjust" to conditions. This is not only safer for the engine, but better for the truck, as you no longer need to continually "flash and relearn" the ECU and Transmission controls.

By utilizing the knock control system, the ECU can actively measure cylinder feedback and make changes QUICKLY to switch tables and provide safe ignition targets, for any octane (as low as 87).
More on this update will be released closer to summer.
The goal: Create a calibration that is adaptive to conditions without flashing.

  • Is the 87 octane performance tune available for the manual truck? I only see 87 octane base tune using flash manager.

  • I’m using the lowest tune out of all the choices and the truck is quite amazing.. It’s significantly more responsive. This is a new truck and how it should have come out of the factory. No regrets and would recommend to anyone.

  • Love the 1.05! Shifting on my 50 mile commute is far beyond improved and even at “MPG” tune, it picks up way faster on WOT. As I pass too, you can feel the change in acceleration > 4000rpm! Having varying idle when in park. Not really an issue to be Honest but wasn’t sure if anyone else was experiencing this.

  • Great work! I’m liking the 04B03 base tune, when will the others be released?
