General FAQ:

Q. Can I download 1.05?

A. Anyone, who has any version of our kit can download and update to 1.05 for their truck using our newest version files. If you have a dongle kit, you may download from the links above. If you have our systemID software, you can download them from the email we will send you with your files.

Q. What has changed with 1.05?

A. Please see our blog post here: https://www.ovtuned.com/blogs/news/tacoma-1-05-tune-release-information-complete-changelog

truck using flash manager once available. (Flash manager 2.00.01, all others are obsolete)
truck using flash manager once available. (Flash manager 2.00.01, all others are obsolete)
truck using flash manager once available. (Flash manager 2.00.01, all others are obsolete)

Q.  Which file version should I use? I see .hex and .P5F?

A. .hex/.bin is for our older customers with our now obsolete version of the flash kit (dongle version). IF your software has a SYSTEM ID, then you do NOT have a dongle kit and you will use the P5F file that matches to your registration.

Q.  Is my ECU version supported?

A. Currently we have all 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 (AT only) supported for 1.05. All ECU versions of these years are included EXCEPT very early version 2016s (04B00 and 04B01) where you should apply Toyotas ECU TSB first.

Q. How do I figure out my ECU ID?

A. You can use the flashing software to obtain it. When you are connected and click "identify" you will see numbers like "89663-04B02".. the "04B02" is what we use to designate tune ID versions.

Q. Can I use any file?

A. NO, you MUST still use the file that matches your ECU ID.

Q. My ECU version is 04B03.. can I use 04B04?

A. NO, you MUST still use the file that matches your ECU ID.

Q. Can I use the TSB version or update TSB with a 1.05 file?

A. NO, you MUST still use the file that matches your ECU ID.

Q. How do I obtain 1.05 update?

A. You will download it from this page or receive it via email. (you do NOT need to email us requesting)

Q. Should I update?

A. Yes, absolutely. We have completely rewritten and changed so many things on this version that we highly recommend everyone updates, and all of our previous tune versions are now obsolete.

Q. Do I need to email you guys to get the update?

A. No, unless your SYSTEM ID is relatively new, or you have not received a registration key and or files from us yet you do not need to email us. We will send it to you directly.

Q. I am having an issue, what should I do?

A. If you encounter any issues, always flash back to stock and send us a message at support@ovtune.zendesk.com and wait for us to help you further.

Q. What tune versions are available?

A. 1.05 release includes : Stock, 87 octane tune, 91 octane tune, 93 octane tune.

(note systemID users will use the original / stock file that you received before. So you will receive only 87,91,93 files)

Q. Will you make a tune for 89 Octane?

A. Due to the very small change between 87 and 89, we do not have plans to make a 89 octane tune.

Q. I can't find my update or can't download files, what do I do?

A. If you are having issues getting updated or have not received an email from us (support@ovtune.zendesk.com) Please do not email us right away, we are working 12/29/18 and 12/30/18 to send out all version system ID P5F based files.

Q. I recently had the TSB done on my truck. Can I still update to 1.05?

A. If you recently had the update done and we do NOT yet know about it (so we don't know your new ID) you cannot update to 1.05. You will first need to message us for new file builds IF YOUR SOFTWARE IS SYSTEM-ID.

Q. My Truck has X.XX Gears, or XXX Size tires. Can I update?

A. Yes, absolutely! The new shift points and shift tune should still work much better than before.

Information regarding changes made in 1.05:

Shifting - Shifting is setup for improved MPG with better control in each gear.

- 1 to 2 upshift and downshift is softened so that the notorious "clunking" is minimized or removed from the drivetrain when downshifting.

- Upshifting is more accurately controlled by your accelerator pedal (right foot).

- The truck has freedom to upshift when you are coasting, this allows for better MPG  and less drive-train drag slowing you down.

- The transmission will blip, quickly back into gear when the accelerator is applied from the upshift on coasting.

- Highway driving is significantly improved for D, and Cruise control. You will have MUCH better results with 5th and 6th gear on the highway, and as a result, you should see better MPG.

- Due to changes with shifting and response / valve timing at low RPM, you should see slightly increased MPG with city driving.

( REMEMBER, IF YOU HAVE A SYSTEM ID IN YOUR SOFTWARE, YOU DO NOT HAVE A DONGLE KIT!)

  • Great job OVTUNED! Was able to flash today over to 93 octane and I am very happy with the results and only expect I will enjoy the truck more and more with time to come. Great job to the team at OVTUNED!

  • Just wanted to say thank you for your time as effort in producing this product.
I have a 2017 Tacoma OR, with steel bumpers, sliders, winch, Leer shell, 4.5" lift, 35s and 4.88 gears. My truck is not light, but with 1.05 91 tune, I have way more power and better mileage than when I drove it off the dealer lot brand new.
Shifting feels steady and calculated opposed to the stock shifting which was erratically jumping all over the place.
I have about 650 miles on 1.05 now and it seems to be getting even better as it settles in. My last fill up got me 22.9 mpg with roughly 50/50 highway and in-town driving.
Your product is absolutely outstanding and the best driveability improvement I have made to my Tacoma!
